to post or not to post?  That is the question.

Okay, so that is not really the question.  Of course, I'm going to post. Duh!  

The question is rather, what should the content and tone be of my blog posts? When I think about adding another guidebook style blog to the universe - i.e. "First we went here and saw this thing.  And then we went there and saw that thing." - I think "just shoot me". That's like the written equivalent of showing home movies. It's not interesting to anyone but the person who took them.  

I also don't have a lot of interest in a "How To" blog on World Schooling. As interesting as I personally think this would be, I suspect there is a very low percentage of people who might read this who would ever do anything as ill advised - er I mean brave (so brave!) - as quitting their jobs to travel the world for a year with their family -  to warrant writing a blog about it.  

But what I do believe people are interested in - especially the armchair travelers - are stories.  Colorful anecdotes of the adventures we'll have and the fascinating people we will no doubt meet along the way, like Vyukosava the lovely and eccentric matron we met in Montenegro on our previous trip around the world - pre kids in 2009.  A famous person - who's name escapes me at the moment - said "Travel is a series of stories". 

I also like to infuse my travel stories with a mix of interesting facts and a healthy dose of humor. I fancy myself a low rent Dave Barry and try to emulate his self effacing style. Here's a sample, called High Heels & Vespas, about Florence, Italy, from our aforementioned 2009 journey.

Now that we have established the tone and subject matter, the next question is how often to post? I am sure that I will feel like I have a great story to tell every few days, but I also am sure that Francesca will be encouraging me to enjoy the trip and not be so focused on posting blogs so I'll have to find a suitable compromise to satisfy my urge to connect with people about our trip while not incurring the wrath of Fran!
