Taha gave us the day off on Thursday and took us into Rabat, the capital of Morocco. He dropped us off at the Mosoleum of Mohammad V and after spending some time there we walked about 30 minutes to a brunch place called Boho Cafe, an eatery that Jade had read about. It was super delicious and well worth the walk. Walking is a great way to see a city and observe its people. The kids liked seeing the various elmentary and high school students we passed along the way. Conclusion: Moroccan kids are very tall!
The slums of Rabat. Apparently the government is building new affordable housing neighborhoods nearby and will transfer these families out of the slums.
Fortified old city wall.
Mohammad VI tower. At 250 meters, its the 3rd tallest building in Africa

Engilsh bookstore in Rabat. A treasure trove of novels, textbooks and other non fiction. We replenished our reading material for the next few months.
Boho Cafe in Rabat. Very good food and quick service. Highly recommend.
Then Taha picked us up and brought us to the former National Museum of Automobiles which is now a private museum collection of classic cars owned by an Emerati Prince who happens to be friends with Taha. There were mostly American cars from the 1950s up through the 1970s as well as some novelty vehicles the prince had made just for fun. I am not a big car guy, but I really enjoyed seeing some of these vehicles from when I was growing up.
Blast from the past! We had one of these babies growing up!
Some crazy concep cars that actually work (but are not street legal)!

After that we stopped off at a mall - if you recall shopping is one of Austen's major passions - and had some fun window shopping. We topped the day off with an outdoor movie (plus dinner) in Taha's parents' backyard. I am sure there is much more to explore in Rabat if one had that desire, but we felt comfortable with what we saw and did.

Outdoor movie in Taha's parents' backyard. The Jahns kids chose the movie - one of their favs "The Mitchell's vs. The Machines".
The next day we had to work so we all went to bed right after the movie.
