Magnificent Marrakesh!
October 16-18, October 25-29, 2024
Francesca and I went to Marrakesh in 2007 and really enjoyed it. This time, however, having been to so many cool places like Chefchaouen and the Sahara Desert, Marrakesh didn't seem all that. In addition, some of the things about Marrakesh - like the snack charmers in Jemaa el-Fnaa (the main square) - seemed downright cruel and definitely not charming and exotic.
That said, as always when we travel, we found aspects that we enjoyed and ended up having a perfectly nice time. We explored Jemaa el-Fnaa - the kids were amazed by the sheer scope of it - ate some tasty meals (although we were pretty much done with Moroccan food at that point) and did a little shopping.
This time we were living in an apartment on the outskirts of town so we pretty much just chilled out on the roof deck, made our meals in our place (see pics of our trip to Marrakesh's version of Costco) and just relaxed for a few days.
But we did venture into town to meet up with Jade, our friend from our time working on the organic farm (see post). It was so good to see her. The kids really enjoyed her company.
But a lot of our time was spent making our DIY masks for our upcoming trip to Translyvania to celebrate Halloween at Dracula's Castle.
Now we're off to Translyvania via London, England, via Guangdong, China!
